Job Description
- Demonstrated ability to manage the day to day operations of a large hospital providing services to the community it serves.
- Able to work independently to efficiently and effectively manage all functions within the Patient Access department.
- Reports directly to the Director, while the PAS Supervisors report to the Manager.
- Appropriately manages the Patient Access associates in all areas of employee selection, training, evaluation, coaching and counseling.
- Performs duties in a manner promoting positive patient encounters and team participation while meeting the goals, vision, shared mission and values of the hospital.
- Maintains knowledge of all Patient Access areas ensuring a high productivity and proficiency standards of performance are achieved at all times.
- Work collaboratively with all internal and external customers and departments to ensure timely and accurate patient registration and processing related to all aspects of the patient and revenue cycle process.
- Ensures all associates are trained in the policies, procedures and processes of Patient Access to achieve consistent and quality outcomes.
- Provides the highest quality patient service while consistently informing all patients of their coverage, discussing all financial alternatives and discussing all coverage options that may be available to assist the patients.
- Protects the financial stability of the patient and hospital by ensuring all point of service collections are accurately and appropriately communicated and obtained prior to service or acceptable financial arrangements are made.
- Ensure all accounts are handled within the standard process as it relates to Medicaid Eligibility, Insurance Verification, patient estimates, collection of prior patient balances, point of service collections, medical necessity, referrals, prior authorizations, accuracy of insurance payer, avoidable front-end denials, financial counseling, data integrity and accuracy and dress code.
- Works collaboratively with the Shared Service Center to understand impact of patient access performance on the whole revenue cycle performance.
- Participates, as appropriate, in all hospital department function and meetings.
- Conducts monthly departmental staff meetings.
- Ensure that all compliance and audit requirements are understood, consistently followed and current in tracking and monitoring requirements.
- Makes suggestions for process improvements and develops plans for process improvement with successful implementation.
- Understands and stays abreast of payer requirements and changes within the industry. Able to share this information with staff for improved overall job understanding.
- Able to motivate staff to achieve stated departmental goals, improving service and outcomes.
