SUMMARY: Leads and manages assigned business process in the areas of safety, productivity, quality, cost, equipment and engagement. Monitors and evaluates the production process and recommends methods to optimize product yields, equipment operation and process control while reducing waste. Engages all employees in continuous improvement and fosters a positive work environment while developing a culture of ownership and accountability.
SCOPE: Manages assigned business process representing approximately $70 million net sales. Manages staff of 3 to 4 direct reports and approximately 100 hourly employees.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Interpret safety policies/practices to employees including enforcing safe work practices. Continuously improve the safety in assigned process by striving for zero incidents. Participate in safety audits within assigned process and in other areas. Use root cause analysis tools (PDCA) to identify the root causes of any safety incidents, and put corrective actions in place to prevent recurrence. Ensure all incidents are reported and entered in our safety tracking system (Intelex).
- Utilize available data (line speed target, set-up guidelines, efficiency and process data) to continuously improve productivity, uptime and reliability. Record downtime and production accurately and minimize waste and/or downtime. Utilize the above information as a tool to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and product cost. Engage support departments, such as the packaging engineering team or maintenance, to drive improvements.
- Manage product quality by understanding and communicating customer needs to employees and ensuring expectations are consistently met and according to standard work. Use root cause analysis tools to identify the root causes of any quality holds, and put corrective actions in place to prevent recurrence.
- Monitor and deliver on financial metrics in assigned process, including direct and indirect labor efficiencies, material usage variances, and cost savings tracking.
- Encourage employee engagement by soliciting input from crew members through the Opportunity for Improvement Program, and work with support departments as needed to implement any ideas that will improve the plant.
- Determine schedules, sequences and assignments for work activities based on work priority, quantity of equipment and skill of personnel. Ensure SAP transactions are accurate. Research / fix process order transaction errors, perform TECO (technically complete) transaction upon process order completion.
- Communicate with other Process Owners, Technical Leads and Production Coordinators to ensure appropriate knowledge transfer from shift to shift.
- Diagnose equipment, ingredients and packaging issues. Coordinate with Engineering, Maintenance or others as appropriate to solve production-related problems.
- Maintain area in accordance with BRC & AIB standards and enforce product safety and sanitation regulations and the master sanitation books program in conjunction with the Sanitation department. Ensure responsible areas comply with 5S requirements and bays are washed regularly as needed, including utilizing the correct chemicals, dosage and application procedures.
- Conduct interviews / assist in recruitment and retention efforts. In conjunction with HR and management, provide performance management for assigned team members that includes appraisal/performance evaluation, coaching and counseling, conflict resolution, corrective action and training programs. Create a culture of accountability and mutual respect in the assigned process.
- Ensure security of employees, facilities and information systems by following and enforcing established security procedures.
- Audits production team activities for conformance to established safety and sanitation policies and procedures.
- Lead and/or participate in a minimum of two continuous improvement events in a year in addition to projects or just do its. Lead/support cost savings teams and drive projects for the assigned process.
- Ensure clear and concise communication to all levels in the organization.
- Ensures operating procedures and work instructions are maintained and updated as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Four-year degree required plus 5-7 years of manufacturing experience, with a minimum three years of experience in a supervisory capacity OR equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience in Continuous Improvement / Lean environment strongly preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: None
COMPUTER SKILLS: Must be proficient in MS Word and Excel. Experience with SAP is helpful.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Professional verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills and delegation skills required. Ability to coach, mentor and develop others required. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving variables in standardized situations.
TRAVEL: Minimal travel may be required.
