The Opportunity
Because of GBB’s robust growth, we are seeking a dynamic Investment Research Director to join our team. This position will provide leadership over the investment functions and programs, performing the day-to-day work necessary to align the firm’s investments for successful outcomes. This position is also responsible for building the foundation of the company’s investment portfolio, including the research, evaluation, and selection of investments. He or she will work with the CIO and the Investment Committee to develop the firm’s investment philosophies and processes, and will be responsible for making investment decisions consistent with the firm’s strategies and goals. This position is also responsible for executing the firm’s communication approach around its investment philosophy and tactics, both internal to the firm, and to outside stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will know how to effectively ensure that the investment activities of the organization are consistent and in compliance with the firm’s values and with regulatory requirements. He or she will strive to optimize the level of investment returns. This person will also be able to successfully work across functional areas of the organization and with a variety of personality types to build strong model portfolios. They will know how to have those portfolios implemented throughout the client base and will maintain strong communication skills for internal and external customers. In addition, the ideal candidate must fit within the GBB culture, adhering to exceptional levels of integrity, teamwork, and a meticulous consideration of always putting clients’ interests first.
The Investment Research Director will report directly to the Chief Investment Officer. Primary responsibilities may include the following, among others:
Investments
- Develop and implement the firm’s investment philosophy, strategies, and process:
Collaborate with leadership and investment committee to evolve the firm’s long- term and short-term investment philosophy and strategies consistent with the firm’s vision, strategy, and client value proposition.
Coordinate and oversee the development, implementation, and oversight of the investment process, including regular fund reviews.
Ensure highest ethical standards and behaviors are achieved and implement necessary internal controls.
Identify and manage strategic partnerships and third-party relationships, as needed.
Assign investment related work tasks to team members supporting the Investment Committee from other parts of the firm based on individual strengths and abilities and business priorities. Follow up on those tasks and support their timely completion.
Reporting
- Manage, maintain, and monitor the asset allocation models and provide oversight of the portfolio management and trading practices:
- Lead the analysis process for the firm’s investment models and ensure timely and accurate reporting.
- Identify key metrics and ensure consistent and effective tracking and reporting of performance data.
- Perform due diligence to ensure legal and regulatory compliance and consistency with the investment strategies and processes.
- Undertake projects, analysis, and perform needed functions per the determinations of the Investment Committee.
Communication
- Manage communication with advisors and clients as to investment philosophy and process:
- Create and update written, audio, and video collateral for use with clients and prospects.
- Execute timely communications on our philosophic approach to investing and on particular market happenings.
- Draft and prepare for distribution quarterly market newsletters for clients.
- Monitor industry and market trends and provide updates and information, as appropriate:
- Provide expertise, assistance, and information to advisors, portfolio managers, research professionals, analysts, and leadership, as appropriate.
- Complete and deliver special projects and communications per the priorities of the Investment Committee.
Minimum requirements for consideration for the Director of Investments role are:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or related field
- Strong Excel skills
- Clean criminal and regulatory record
- Comply with company’s drug testing policy
Strong candidates will offer the following:
- 7+ years’ experience in the financial services and/or investment advisory industry
- Knowledge of investment products and markets
- A firm understanding of concepts, practices, and procedures of investment management and mutual fund analysis and review
- Demonstrated strong analytical skills
- Attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize tasks and to manage multiple reporting relationships well
- Systems and process orientation
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Positive attitude and sincere willingness to learn and grow continuously
- IT skills – superior Excel capabilities; Tamarac, Portfolio Center, DST, custodian portal, and CRM software skills a plus
- CFA charter preferred
- Series 7 and 66 licenses preferred
