Job Description

We are looking for a Principal Video Engineer to assist the digital organization in its increased importance to the company as well as working with third party vendors and acquisitions.  This person will provide broad impact as a technical leader on both tactical and strategic objectives.  Specifically, he or she will provide the following critical services to product teams, other groups within Sinclair, partners, investments, and critical vendors:

  • Help expand and build out the video platform of America’s largest broadcaster
  • Help Sinclair forward the convergence of broadcast video, digital video, and ATSC 3.0
  • Design and communicate tactical approaches to strategic initiatives that involve many players (examples: video mid-roll ad insertion, programmatic spot insertion, master control integration)
  • Implement critical innovations to close gaps in these initiatives
  • Document and identify intellectual property associated with these initiatives
  • Travel as needed to complete tactical initiatives with partners, vendors, and investments
  • Train and transition solutions for maintenance and advancement by ownership teams
  • Continually identify new opportunities for technical innovations to drive the strategy
  • Continually mentor and assist incubation companies on how to evolve product and services
  • Continually mentor and train product development technical staff in innovation and delivery
  • Expert knowledge of programming languages such as C, C++, Java, JavaScript, GoLang, HTML, CSS
  • Expert knowledge of physical hardware used for video encoding and delivery
  • Expert knowledge of video encoding systems design
  • Expert knowledge of content delivery and scaling strategies
  • Expert leadership capabilities including leading vendors, staff, and external teams to drive solutions
  • Expert integration knowledge using web services, REST, and web
  • Working knowledge of mobile application development and capabilities
  • UML and Case Tools knowledge required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
